OxiPhys Software Licence Version 1.0, 22 October 2026 Copyright (c) 2026 Ashish Gad. All rights reserved. DRAFT FOR LEGAL REVIEW. This text was prepared without a solicitor. Have it checked before relying on it. This licence covers OxiPhys version 0.9.0 and later as downloaded from oxiphys.com or from another source the author names ("the Software"). By installing or using the Software you accept these terms. If you do not accept them, do not install or use the Software. 1. Licence to use The author grants you a free, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to install the Software on computers you own or control and to use it for any lawful purpose, including commercial engineering work, teaching and research. 2. Your work belongs to you Models, geometry, meshes, scripts, drawings, results and reports you create with the Software belong to you. The author claims no rights in them. 3. What you may not do Except as allowed by section 4 or by written permission from the author, you may not: (a) copy, sell, rent, lend, sublicense, publish or otherwise distribute the Software or any part of it, including the setup bundle and the wheels it contains; (b) decompile, disassemble or reverse engineer the Software, or try to recover its source code; (c) modify the Software, or create works derived from it; (d) remove or change any copyright, licence or attribution notice in the Software; (e) use the OxiPhys name or logo to suggest that the author endorses your product. 4. Rights the law gives you Nothing in this licence restricts what the law of your country lets you do with a program you are entitled to use, and that the law says a contract cannot take away. In the United Kingdom this includes making a necessary back-up copy, decompiling for interoperability under the conditions of section 50B of the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988, and observing, studying or testing how the program works under section 50BA (section 296A of that Act). 5. Third-party components The Software includes components written by others, listed in THIRD-PARTY-NOTICES.md. Each is covered by its own licence, and nothing here limits your rights under those licences. Gmsh, the mesh generator OxiPhys can use, is a separate program under its own licence (GNU GPL) and is installed separately; this licence does not cover it. The one file that runs combined with Gmsh, oxiphys/_gmsh_driver.py, is licensed under MIT OR Apache-2.0 instead of this licence. 6. Earlier versions Versions of OxiPhys before 0.9.0 that were released under the MIT or the Apache License 2.0 remain under those licences for anyone who received them under those terms. This licence applies only to version 0.9.0 and later. 7. No warranty The Software is provided "as is", without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose. Engineering results depend on models, meshes, material data and assumptions chosen by the user. You are responsible for checking every result independently before relying on it for design, certification or safety decisions. 8. Limitation of liability To the fullest extent the law allows, the author is not liable for any loss or damage arising from the use of, or inability to use, the Software, including loss of data, profit, business or time, or damage caused by decisions based on its results. Nothing in this licence limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot be limited by law. 9. Ending the licence This licence ends automatically if you break any of its terms. When it ends you must stop using the Software and delete every copy. Sections 2, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 and 10 continue to apply. 10. Law This licence is governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction, without taking away any protection the law of your own country gives you as a consumer.
